Introduction to Net Lingo

Are you new to the Internet? A whole 'new world' of language exists online, it is called 'Net lingo', where people use abbreviated words in place of writing in forums, posts, chats, emails and so forth.  Abbreviations like "LOL" (or lol) which means "Lots of Laughs" (someone has said or written something that makes you laugh!) or "BRB" (or brb) which means "Be Right Back" (generally popping away from the computer to grab a cuppa, answer the door etc).

There are Other Abbreviated Meanings used on the Internet also, though rather than interpret to slang or sayings, they are truer to the meaning of an abbreviation, such as "www" which means "World Wide Web" or "URL" meaning "Uniform Resource Locator" in its technical term and in the "untechnical" manner it simply means website address!

Then there are 'Emoticons' that are put together by using certain keys on your keyboard. Little *smiley faces* like :) or the sad face :( or how about poking tongue :p - It's a strange world out there, even more so in here!

Do's & Don'ts online - A list of basic "Netiquette" that everyone should become familiar with when venturing online in the early days.  Suffice to say not everyone knows what to do online or what not to do, for many of us, we learn the hard way!  Like opening an email with an attachment only to find our computer suddenly crashes because a virus has just walked through our PC and done some serious damage! :O  Or writing an email or post using all CAPITALS, is as good as screaming at a person or entire forum, it is a no go zone!  If you know of any Net Lingo that is not listed, Contact Us and we will add them.
